Dear colleague participating at Terra Madre!

On the 29th of October, at the assembly “Cooks in food systems”, Claudio Bincoletto, an event chef working in London, and I presented my idea or proposal of having a Cooks of Terra Madre Day the 11th of November each year. 11th of November is a day representing peace (end of First World War) and new beginnings.

It would also be a way for us, 1000 invited cooks, to show gratitude and good will towards Terra Madre and also to promote the values and spread the knowledge of Slow Food to influential people, press and hopefully to the public. Slow Food in Practice. A way of us cooks to “get out of the golden cages” as Carlo Petrini, the founder of Slow Food, put it in his final speech.

The basics of Cooks of Terra Madre Day are as follows:
• Each cook co-operates with at least one local food producer, farmer, fisherman or presidia.
• Each cook invites 5 influential people (politician, businessperson, governor, press etc) to an eating or tasting experience.
• You can add to the experience by talking about Terra Madre and the ideas of good, clean and fair food and products.
• Don’t forget to notify the press if media don’t sit at your table.
• The event take place wherever the cook is operating that day. At his or her restaurant, home or workspace anytime at the 11th of November.

Press releases can also be made. (We will make one in Sweden.)
After the event the cook sends the outcome of the event back to Slow Food in Italy and to me or to Claudio Bincoletto this year please! The feedback could be used as inspiration for next year’s events.

We are sure the goodwill of this event will help not just Slow Food but also the business or workplace we all operate in!

We got great response on the idea from nearly 80 cooks!! Many of them came up to us at the dinner after the assembly and many mailed us after coming back home to Sweden and England.

We know it is short notice but with the overwhelming taste and experience of Terra Madre and Salone del Gusto fresh in mind, it is possible!
